Plant Needs

☀️
Sunlight Bright indirect light; avoid direct midday sun which can scorch the silver foliage; tolerates low light for short periods
💧
Watering Fill the central rosette reservoir with distilled or rainwater and moisten the soil lightly; empty and refresh reservoir water every 2 weeks to prevent bacterial growth
🌡️
Temperature Thrives at 18–24°C; protect from temperatures below 10°C to prevent leaf browning and tissue damage
🔍

Characteristics

  • Leaf: Long, arching, sword-shaped leaves with silvery-gray scales forming a central water-holding rosette
  • Flower: Tall pink bract spike with small purple flowers emerging from bracts
  • Stem: Short, hidden stem; rosette grows directly from the base
🛠️

Care Guide

Watering

Maintain 2–3 cm of water in the central rosette; keep soil slightly moist

Fertilization

Diluted feed applied directly to the rosette water every 4 weeks. Avoid over-fertilizing to prevent leaf burn and mineral buildup

Banana peel tea:Steep 1 peeled banana in 1L of water for 2 days, strain thoroughly, and dilute 1:2 before adding to the rosette reservoir to avoid nutrient imbalance
Pruning
  • Remove browning outer leaves at the base to maintain rosette appearance and improve airflow
  • Trim spent flower spikes close to the rosette after blooming to redirect energy to offset pups
  • Separate mature 15–20 cm tall offsets in spring for propagation; avoid damaging the parent plant's root system
