Characteristics
- Leaves: Basal, linear, glabrous, 5–10 mm wide, pale green with smooth margins.
- Flowers: Arranged in unbranched racemes; star-shaped, white petals with a distinct brownish or pinkish midvein.
- Stems: Leafless flowering stems, erect, rigid, green.
- Fruits: Capsule with several seeds.
Care Guide
Water lightly once a week; increase frequency slightly in extreme heat
Apply light organic fertilizer at onset of growth. Low nutrient requirements; avoid high nitrogen as it promotes excessive foliage over flowers
Banana peel compost:Dry and chop banana peels; incorporate into soil near base; avoid fresh peels to prevent pests- Remove spent flower stalks to encourage basal leaf vigor;
- Trim dead or damaged leaves;
- Avoid cutting healthy basal leaves during growth cycle;
- Clear debris around crown to prevent rot;
- Divide clumps every few years to maintain vigor
