Characteristics
- Leaf: Modified into sharp, yellowish spines arranged in vertical ribs along the stem
- Flower: White, funnel-shaped night-blooming blooms up to 10 cm long
- Stem: Thick ribbed green column with a rounded apex; grows slowly over decades
Care Guide
Water deeply once every 2–3 weeks; let soil dry completely between waterings
Diluted cactus fertilizer once every 6 weeks. Use low-nitrogen, high-phosphorus fertilizer to support flowering and stem growth
Eggshell powder top-dress:Grind clean, dried eggshells to fine powder; sprinkle 1–2 tbsp around the base of the cactus; avoid direct contact with the stem to prevent tissue burn- Remove dead or damaged spine clusters and small stem sections to maintain plant appearance
- Trim off offset pups only if propagating; avoid cutting the main column to prevent permanent damage
- Inspect for mealybug infestations and remove affected areas with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol
