Characteristics
- Stem: Fan-shaped, blue-green crested succulent tissue with distinct, evenly spaced areoles
- Spines: Short, yellowish-brown radiating spines from areoles; sharp and rigid, capable of physical puncture
- Flowers: Bright red, funnel-shaped blooms up to 10 cm long, emerging from mature areoles
Care Guide
Water thoroughly when soil is completely dry; reduce frequency during prolonged heatwaves to avoid sunscald
Diluted cactus fertilizer once every 6 weeks. Discontinue fertilization in autumn and winter to support dormancy
Eggshell powder topdressing:Crush dried eggshells into fine powder; sprinkle lightly on soil surface to avoid root burn; do not mix into wet soil- Remove dead or discolored crested tissue to maintain shape and improve airflow
- Trim any non-crested offshoots that disrupt the uniform crested form
- Avoid overhandling to prevent spine injury and damage to delicate succulent tissue
