Characteristics
- Leaf: Flat, dark green needles with silvery undersides; 1–2 cm long, arranged in a flat spray
- Cone: Purple female cones (5–10 cm long) that mature to brown and disintegrate on the tree
- Bark: Smooth, gray-brown with resin blisters that release fragrant balsam sap
Care Guide
Keep soil evenly moist during active growth periods; avoid waterlogging the root zone
Apply slow-release granular fertilizer once in early spring to support new growth. Use a fertilizer formulated for evergreen trees to support needle health
Crushed eggshell topdress:Rinse and crush eggshells to a fine powder; sprinkle lightly on the soil surface and water in to release calcium gradually without causing pH imbalance- Remove dead, damaged, or diseased branches in late winter to maintain tree shape and reduce disease risk
- Avoid heavy pruning; only trim to control height or remove crowded branches for better air circulation
- Trim back new leader growth sparingly to maintain the tree's natural pyramidal form
