Apply balanced slow-release fertilizer once at bud break. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers which can cause excessive foliage growth at the expense of bark health
Eggshell powder top dressing:Crush dried eggshells into fine powder; sprinkle lightly around the base of the tree to boost soil calcium levels- Remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches in late winter to maintain an open, airy canopy
- Thin crowded branches to improve air circulation and reduce disease risk
- Avoid heavy pruning as it can damage the distinctive peeling bark
