Plant Needs
Characteristics
- Leaves: Long, strap-like, medium green leaves emerging from the apex and base of pseudobulbs;
- Flowers: Highly variable, often star-shaped with striking patterns of red, maroon, yellow, white, and pink, featuring a prominent, ruffled lip;
- Pseudobulbs: Plump, oval to pear-shaped pseudobulbs that store water and nutrients;
- Roots: Thick, white to silvery epiphytic roots adapted for high aeration.
Care Guide
Water thoroughly once a week, allowing water to flush through the bark mix.
Apply a balanced orchid fertilizer diluted to 1/4 strength every two weeks.. Flush the pot with plain water once a month to prevent salt buildup from fertilizers.
Banana Peel Tea:Soak chopped banana peels in water for 24-48 hours, strain, and dilute 1:1 with water. Use as a liquid feed to encourage blooming. Do not place raw peels directly on the orchid bark, as this will cause mold and attract pests.- Cut the flower spike down to the base once all blooms have faded and the stem turns brown;
- Do not remove green, plump pseudobulbs, even if they have lost their leaves, as they store energy;
- Carefully trim away only dead, papery, or hollow roots during repotting using sterilized shears.
