Characteristics
- Leaves: Alternate, broad, obovate to lanceolate, with finely serrulate margins and a yellowish-green tint;
- Flowers: Cyathia arranged in umbel-like clusters (pleiochasium) with 3 to 5 rays, featuring oval yellowish glands;
- Stem: Erect, usually glabrous or sparsely hairy, containing milky white latex;
- Fruit: A 3-lobed capsule, smooth or slightly warty, containing smooth brown seeds.
Care Guide
Water moderately when the topsoil feels dry.
Apply a light organic mulch if grown in poor soil.. Fertilization is rarely required for this robust annual.
Banana Peel Tea:Steep chopped banana peels in water for 24-48 hours, strain, and use the liquid to water the base of the plant. Discard the solid peels in a compost bin to avoid attracting pests.- Wear protective gloves and eyewear before pruning to avoid contact with toxic sap;
- Deadhead spent cyathia to prevent aggressive self-seeding;
- Remove the entire plant at the end of the growing season.

Pets: Toxic per ASPCA; ingestion causes severe gastrointestinal upset, and sap causes dermal/ocular irritation.
Humans: The milky sap (latex) is highly irritating to skin and eyes, and toxic if ingested.
