Characteristics
- Leaf: Bundles of 3 blue-green, stiff needles 10–15 cm long with sharp tips
- Cone: Large ovoid cones 20–40 cm long with thick woody scales holding giant edible seeds
- Stem/Bark: Gray-brown bark that develops deep furrows as the tree matures
Care Guide
Water every 7–10 days during dry spring and summer periods; avoid overwatering to prevent root rot
Apply slow-release balanced fertilizer once in early spring to support new growth. Do not fertilize mature trees unless showing signs of nutrient deficiency
Eggshell powder topdressing:Crush clean, fully dried eggshells into fine powder; sprinkle lightly on the soil surface in early spring; avoid direct contact with foliage to prevent leaf burn- Remove dead, damaged, or diseased branches in late winter to improve airflow and tree health
- Trim lower branches gradually to shape the tree as it matures, avoiding heavy pruning of old wood
- Thin overcrowded branches to allow sunlight to reach inner foliage
