- Flower: Dense spherical umbels up to 15 cm wide, composed of tiny star-shaped purple florets
- Bulb: Underground globular bulb covered in papery brown tunics
Care Guide
Keep soil evenly moist during active foliage and flower stalk growth
Apply balanced granular fertilizer at bulb emergence. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers that may promote foliage over flower growth
Eggshell powder topdressing:Sprinkle finely crushed, fully dried eggshells around the base of plants in early spring; avoid direct contact with foliage to prevent burning- Remove spent flower heads to prevent unwanted self-seeding (optional, if naturalization is not desired)
- Cut back yellowed, dead foliage to ground level in late summer after it has fully died back
- Divide overcrowded bulb clumps every 3–4 years in autumn to promote healthy growth and flowering
Toxicity
