Care Guide

Watering

Water deeply and frequently, keeping the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged

Fertilization

Apply a balanced fertilizer to promote vigorous leafy growth. Heavy feeders; regular fertilization is crucial for sustaining their massive blooms.

Banana Peel Tea:Steep chopped banana peels in water for 48 hours. Dilute 1:1 with water and apply to the base to boost blooming. Discard peels in compost to avoid foul odors and do not leave them in water for more than a few days.
Pruning
  • Timing: Prune in late fall or early spring before new growth begins;
  • Technique: Cut back branches above the first main "Y" fork to ensure the plant continues to produce flowers;
  • Safety: Always wear thick gloves and long sleeves when pruning, as the sap is highly toxic and can be absorbed through cuts or cause eye irritation if transferred.
⚠️

Toxicity

Warning: this plant may be toxic.

Pets & Humans

Pets: Highly toxic per ASPCA. Ingestion causes severe central nervous system and gastrointestinal issues.

Humans: Highly toxic. All parts contain dangerous levels of tropane alkaloids (scopolamine, hyoscyamine, and atropine), which can cause severe anticholinergic poisoning if ingested or if sap enters the eyes.
