Characteristics
- Leaf: Small, deciduous green leaves clustered at stem tips, drop quickly leaving spiny scar rings
- Stem: Thick, segmented gray-green succulent stems with paired sharp spines at each segment node
- Flower: Tiny yellow-green cyathia clustered at stem apexes, non-showy inflorescences
Care Guide
Water deeply once every 2–3 weeks, allow soil to dry fully between waterings
Diluted low-nitrogen cactus fertilizer once every 2 months. Do not fertilize in winter when plant is dormant
Eggshell powder top dressing:Crush dried eggshells to fine powder, sprinkle lightly on soil surface; avoid direct contact with stems to prevent mold growth- Wear thick protective gloves to avoid contact with toxic sap during pruning
- Remove dead or damaged stem segments in early spring to maintain candelabra form
- Trim overgrown branches to encourage compact, balanced growth; dispose of pruned material safely to avoid sap exposure
