- Leaf: Scale-like, overlapping leaves in whorls of 3; dark green to blue-green, emitting a foul odor when crushed
- Cones: Female cones are berry-like, fleshy, ripening from green to dark purple over 2–3 years
- Stem/Bark: Reddish-brown bark, peeling in thin, fibrous strips with age
Care Guide
Water deeply once every 2–3 weeks during extended dry spells
Apply a slow-release, balanced fertilizer once in early spring. Avoid over-fertilization to prevent excessive foliage growth that may reduce drought tolerance
Eggshell powder topdressing:Crush dried eggshells into a fine powder, sprinkle lightly on the soil surface, and mix into the top 2 cm of soil to avoid pest attraction- Prune in late winter to shape the tree or shrub; remove dead, diseased, or crossing branches
- Thin dense foliage to improve airflow and reduce the risk of fungal infections
- Avoid heavy pruning as juniper species have limited regrowth potential on old wood
