Characteristics
- Leaf: Scale-like, overlapping, blue-green to dark green; aromatic when crushed
- Cones: Female cones are berry-like, fleshy, blue-black when mature; male cones are small, yellow-brown
- Stem/Bark: Reddish-brown, peeling in thin strips with age
Care Guide
Water deeply every 7–10 days during prolonged dry periods
Apply a low-nitrogen, slow-release fertilizer once in early spring. Do not over-fertilize, as this can lead to weak, leggy growth
Eggshell powder topdressing:Finely crush dried eggshells and sprinkle a thin layer on the soil surface; mix lightly into the top 2 cm of soil to avoid attracting pests- Prune in late winter to early spring to shape the plant and remove dead, damaged, or diseased branches
- Thin dense foliage to improve airflow and reduce the risk of fungal infections
- Avoid heavy pruning of old wood, as junipers have limited regrowth from mature stems
