Characteristics
- Leaf: Sword-shaped, stiff, upright leaves with bright yellow variegated margins and dark green banded centers
- Flower: Creamy-white, fragrant tubular blooms clustered on tall, thin spikes (rarely produced indoors)
- Stem: Short, underground rhizomes that spread to form dense clumps
Care Guide
Water when the top 5–7 cm of soil is completely dry; ensure excess water drains fully
Diluted balanced succulent fertilizer every 2 months. Avoid over-fertilizing, as it can cause leaf burn and reduce variegation
Banana peel compost tea:Compost banana peels for 2–3 weeks, steep in water for 24 hours, dilute 1:20 with water before applying as a root drench to avoid burning roots- Remove yellow, brown, or damaged leaves by cutting at the base of the rhizome
- Trim overcrowded rhizomes during spring repotting to maintain plant density
- Avoid cutting healthy variegated leaves, as regrowth will lack the yellow margin variegation
- Remove spent flower spikes after blooming to redirect energy to foliage growth
