Characteristics
- Leaf: Linear, fleshy bright green basal leaves, up to 20 cm long, arching outward from the bulb
- Flower: Dense terminal umbels of star-shaped golden-yellow blooms, 2–3 cm across, with subtle green central stripes on petals
- Bulb: Small ovoid underground bulb with a papery brown tunic for moisture storage
Care Guide
Keep soil evenly moist during active growth and blooming to support flower development
Apply half-strength balanced liquid fertilizer every 2 weeks to support blooming. Do not fertilize dormant bulbs to prevent nutrient burn
Eggshell powder top-dress:Crush fully dried eggshells into fine powder; sprinkle 1 teaspoon per pot around the base of the plant and water gently to work into the soil- Snip spent flower stalks at the base after blooming to redirect energy to bulb growth
- Trim yellowing foliage only after it has fully died back in late summer to avoid damaging dormant bulbs
- Thin overcrowded bulbs every 2–3 years in early spring to improve airflow and encourage healthier blooms
