Characteristics
- Leaf: Thick, rigid, sword-shaped leaves with silvery-blue powdery coating and sharp terminal spine
- Stem: Short, subterranean stem supporting the tight rosette structure
- Flower: Tall, branched flower spike bearing clusters of tubular yellow flowers (blooms once before the parent plant dies)
Care Guide
Water thoroughly when the top 10–15 cm of soil is completely dry; reduce watering during extreme heatwaves
Diluted low-nitrogen cactus fertilizer once monthly. Do not fertilize in autumn or winter when growth slows
Eggshell powder topdressing:Crush dried, rinsed eggshells into fine powder; sprinkle 1 teaspoon per pot and mix lightly into the topsoil to boost calcium levels and soil porosity- Trim dead, brown leaf tips with clean shears to maintain a neat rosette appearance
- Remove the spent flower stalk after blooming, as the parent plant will die following flowering
- Separate offset pups in spring for propagation, using clean tools to avoid infection
